Are you a Critical Thinker?

Hello! I’m Kelly Trivedy.

I help educators and students in Higher and Further Education to think critically and flourish in academic and professional development.

A little about me...

I am a strong advocate for critical thinking, reflective practice, and research skills.

I spent around 10 years in the education sector spanning from Secondary School, Further Education, and Higher Education. With my academic background and passion for supporting the challenging journey that this brings, I am committed to academic skill development which is often stigmatised across all communities. This is where my intrigue for critical thinking was born and continues to grow.

  • As a consultant, I support lecturers, learning and teaching managers, and curriculum heads in Higher and Further Education institutions to value and embed critical thinking and reflection into their curriculum.

  • As a coach, I work with undergraduate and postgraduate students to enhance their critical thinking skills for their educational and employability development for success.

  • As a tutor, I support existing or aspiring university and college students with their legal knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive within and beyond the confines of their education development.

My Independent Work

I work with academics and students to help them flourish in critical thinking and reflective practice skills and research in education. I also write my own online blog on critical thinking. I host a podcast ‘Talking CriticalEd’ which I record, edit and share with the academic community. You can sign up under ‘podcast’ for updates.

My Research

My MA research looked at developing a model for critical thinking. My current research interest is in ‘Embedding subject-specific critical thinking skills in higher education degree programmes.’ I am dedicated to exploring this further with institutions that I work with. I am also interested in the question: ‘what constitutes critical thinking?’

My Projects

I am currently brainstorming ideas for Series of my ‘Talking CriticalEd’ podcast. My chapter for 100 Ideas for Active Learning is out now. I recently started working as a Learning Development Consultant at the University of Nottingham too. I will also be sharing some ideas which I have collated from working with students over the last 3 yrs.

My Reviews

What do others say about me?

"Kelly has worked with our academic teaching teams offering bespoke professional development, coaching, and mentoring. Kelly has provided exceptional support to teachers by running highly interactive and engaging sessions and running a dedicated teaching and learning Microsoft Teams page. Kelly has coached and mentored individual teachers through a diverse range of areas of development. The reports Kelly provided our senior leadership team are comprehensive and have given the organisation a rich picture of our position regarding teaching, learning, and assessment. Kelly offers meaningful and impactful consultancy and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with such a passionate individual."

Rosie Francis

Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment CCCG Group

"Kelly has worked with our Higher Education students by offering bespoke sessions during our Student Development Weeks. Kelly’s sessions are highly interactive along with being incredibly sensitive to our student's needs. She encourages student participation using a variety of different tools, all of which have been incredibly successful in driving engagement and a sense of community for the group. Kelly creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that puts students at ease to help them to interact with the content of the session. She often uses real-life experiences to help students to understand and explore theories and concepts that are particularly challenging. I would highly recommend Kelly for any curriculum area."

Claire Wright

Academic Skills Tutor, Loughborough College

"I would fully recommend Kelly to all educational institutions. She is ultra professional and everything pre, during, and post the session was organised expertly. Kelly also has excellent knowledge and articulates this really well, with tangible ideas for staff to consider, which staff were very positive about. Kelly delivered our training session online and was very confident and engaging in this mode of delivery."

Steven Spence

Teaching and Learning Innovator, The Sheffield College

Kelly’s approach to supporting staff and students has always been original and innovative and she takes great time and care to ensure that activities are well-scaffolded and that learning is deep. I worked with Kelly on a number of projects relating to critical thinking where Kelly developed a programme of great CPD for staff and built and rolled out a support programme for students. This really helped to move towards a more reflective and expansive culture in the academic community and raised the attainment of students.
